Round the Mountain Trail: A Vision

A Vision of the Round the Mountain Trail

Just imagine...

A ten-mile vision of outdoor adenture on the last two highest mountains being conserved in the Camden Hills. On June 14, 2011, in the company of our trail partners, the Camden Snow Bowl and the Midcoast Chapter of the New England Mountain Bike Association, and enthusiastic community supporters, we opened the first section of what we envision will one day become a four-season Round the Mountain Trail on Ragged Mountain.

The opportunity to complete the Round the Mountain Trail moves closer to reality as each parcel on Ragged Mountain is conserved. We expect that the trail will pass through 12 - 15 parcels on the mountain, nine of which have been protected. Now we have the chance to secure one of the most crucial links, the Hart Tract.

John and Rhonda Hart own 232 acres that encompass the western side of Ragged Mountain, featuring densely forested slopes, blueberry fields, and bold open ledges. They have agreed to sell 203 acres of their land to us and to restrict the rest of their property from additional residential development. With the help of the Maine Water Company, we're completing the purchase in four stages during the next two years. Read more about it here.

Once completed, we will have reached 49% of our original goal for the Bald and Ragged Mountains Campaign and the Round the Mountain Trail will be many steps closer to becoming a reality for our community.
