Mt. Percival Preserve

Location: Northport

Protected: 2003

Acreage: 71 acres

Description: At 510 feet, the summit of Northport's Mount Percival , located above the community of Bayside, is Northport's highest point on the coastal side of the Route 1 corridor. This scenic spot also sits within the Mount Percival Preserve, a 71-acre conservation property, open to the public for hiking, nature observation and hunting.

Visitors to the Preserve can enjoy a 1/2 mile hike to the summit of the property where the foundation of an early rusticator's tower sits in the woods. In the early 1900s, visitors to this spot would have enjoyed nearly 360 degree views with Penobscot Bay to the east and the Camden Hills to the south and west.. Although glimpses of the bay can be seen, visitors exploring the old stone foundation today must use their imagination to envision what this place was once like.

Conservation History:

The Mount Percival Preserve was donated in 2003 by the Hildreth family who wished to see this special place and protected forever.
