Description: Belfast's Stover Preserve is a unique 45-acre conservation property located along the Passagassawakeag River that provides an opportunity to enjoy a scenic riverside nature walk within close proximity to downtown Belfast.
The Preserve offers a 1.5-mile loop trail through a range of habitats including a dense white pine forest, a wet hardwood riparian forest, and a thick hemlock grove that lines the Passagassawakeag River. Arriving at the banks of the Passagassawakeag, the trail offers visitors an opportunity to experience a wild and undeveloped section of Belfast's principle river.
Conservation History: The Stover Preserve was purchased from Lee and Dona Stover of Waldo in 2004 as part of the Passagassawakeag Greenway Campaign, a community-based effort to protect a corridor of natural lands along the Passagassawakeag River.
