Beech Hill Preserve Expansion & Trail Connection
Coastal Mountains Land Trust is working to conserve 18+ acres of land adjacent to Beech Hill Preserve. This preserve expansion will allow for a trail connection between Beech Hill and Erickson Fields Preserves. In collaboration with Maine Coast Heritage Trust (MCHT), we are excited to establish a trail connection (marked in yellow) between these two scenic and popular preserves.
MCHT manages Aldermere Farm and established Erickson Fields Preserve a few years ago and then extended their community trail, which starts at their Rt 90 trailhead, (across from the Camden Hills High School) to the sharp bend on Beech Hill Road Linking these two important and popular preserves is a terrific opportunity.
Beech Hill Preserve is 295 acres and was established in 1990. The complete historic restoration of the hut at the summit, farm road, and organic farm buildings were completed in 2019. Erickson Fields Preserve was a dairy farm until the 1980s and is now owned by MCHT and includes an area dedicated to their youth farm programs as well as a 1.5+ mile trail loop with the connector trail up to Beech Hill Road.
Beech Hill Preserve Addition: Acquire 3.8 acres of land for a trail corridor to build a 3.5 mile trail connection linking Beech Hill Preserve with Erickson Fields Preserve trail system.
Preserve Buffer: Conserve an additional 14.3 acre buffer for the trail and establish a conservation easement that limits development on adjacent land.
Farmland conservation: Conserve 6+ acres of additional blueberry land.
Fundraising: $170,000 needed for land conservation, trail construction, and stewardship.
