SUMMARY:Kites & Ice Cream
DESCRIPTION:Join Coastal Mountains Land Trust at Beech Hill Preserve on Saturday\, September 26 from 1:30 PM – 4 PM for an afternoon of pure joy.  \nEvery child will receive a free kite and a scoop of ice cream from Sugar Plums ice cream truck!  Adults in attendance are welcome to purchase their own.  \nThere is a 3/4 mile hike up a dirt path to reach our historic stone hut (the Beech Nut) where our kites & ice cream festivities will take place. In the event of inclement weather\, Kites & Ice Cream will be rescheduled to Sunday\, September 27. \nChildren of ALL AGES are welcome to join the fun.  There is no need to have a little one in tow!  \nRegister here! \nFor everyone’s safety\, dogs will not be allowed on top of the hill during the event.

SUMMARY:Happy Wanderers: Clark Island
DESCRIPTION:Join Coastal Mountains Land Trust and Maine Health’s Community Health program for a Happy Wanderers Hike at Maine Coast Heritage Trust’s Clark Island Preserve. \nFor this month’s walk\, we will focus more on observing nature sights and less on accomplishing mileage. We may wander a mile or less\, depending on how many interesting birds\, plants\, and mammal signs we stop to admire. Maine Coast Heritage Trust’s exceptional Regional Stewardship Manager\, Kirk Gentalen\, will lead the hike and share his observations and stories of the island’s inhabitants. \nParking is very limited\, so we will use the overflow parking .75 miles before you arrive at the island’s causeway. Rides will be provided to the trailhead. Please arrive 10 -15 minutes before the hike\, to allow time to shuttle walkers to the trailhead. \nDirections: From the junction of Route 1 and Route 131\, east of downtown Thomaston\, follow Route 131 south. Drive 5.3 miles and turn left onto Route 73. In 0.9 miles\, bear right onto Clark Island Road. Continue until you see the welcoming faces of Maine Coast Heritage Trust\, Coastal Mountains\, and Community Health’s staff showing you where the overflow parking is! DESCRIPTION:Join the Maine Mycological Society as they lead a mushroom walk on the Coastal Mountains Land Trust’s Ragged Mountain trail\, starting from the Thorndike Brook trailhead in Hope. \nLearn how to identify mushrooms found along the path and soak-up the inspiration and knowledge of mushroom enthusiasts. The interwoven world of fungi is enthralling. Everyone is welcome! \nBring warm layers\, tick and insect protection\, water and sturdy walking footwear. \nLocation: 223 Hope street\, Hope. \nDirections: From Camden\, take Rt. 1 south\, then take Rt. 90 west. After 2.5 miles\, turn right onto Rt. 17. Continue 2.7 miles then turn right onto Hope St. There are two trailheads on this road.
