SUMMARY:Art Gone Wild: Smudge Studio
DESCRIPTION:In collaboration with Waterfall Arts\, Art Gone Wild hosts artists at the Head of Tide Preserve for performances and installations of their work free to the community. Our first micro-residency features Belfast-based art duo Smudge Studio\, who will transform the preserve’s shed into a teahouse! \nFor this micro-residency at Shed of Tides\, Smudge Studio will reimagine the Head of Tide Trail as an itinerary along the path of planetary transformation. They will activate the Shed of Tides as a tea hut way-stop along that path. They will welcome visitors walking along the path to pause and—in the midst of the vast planetary transformations taking place—experience the “miraculous” within the everyday: the brewing\, sipping\, and sharing of a simple cup of tea.   \nTheir inspiration and point of departure  is a ninth century Zen story called: The Old Woman’s Miraculous Powers. In the story\, a woman invites traveling monks to her tea hut beside the road. She challenges them to show her their “miraculous powers.” When they fail to respond\, she offers them the “miracle” that she experiences everyday in her tea hut: brewing and pouring cups of tea. \nTwo activations will take place: 4PM-7:30PM on Friday\, July 14th and 8AM-10AM on Saturday\, July 15th. These events are free and open to everyone! No tickets or registration required. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

SUMMARY:Arts on the Hill: Dave Mallett
DESCRIPTION:Coastal Mountains Land Trust is excited to welcome the Dave Mallett Band for a special Arts on the Hill event\, a “Concert for the Hill\,” to benefit our Beech Hill Fields and Habitat Initiative. Join us for this special concert with one of America’s true original troubadours on Saturday\, August 19 at 6:00 p.m. (rain date is Sunday\, August 20). \nIn a career spanning five decades\, Dave has recorded 17 albums and performed across the US\, Canada\, and Europe. Known for his carefully written poetic offerings\, his body of work has provided material for an eclectic list of artists that that includes Alison Krauss\, Pete Seeger\, Hal Ketchum\, Emmylou Harris\, John Denver\, and the Muppets. Mallett’s music is a reminder of the connection with the earth and with days gone by – and of the memories and dreams that sustain us. \nThe Concert for the Hill is the public launch of the Beech Hill Initiative which seeks to raise the funds to support the management of Beech Hill’s historic landscape for the benefit of wildlife\, blueberries\, children and community events (like these concerts!)\, and the scenic views of the coastal mountains and Penobscot Bay. The Land Trust’s goal is to raise $350\,000 to support the long-term field and habitat management practices needed to sustain this truly one-of-a-kind community asset. \nLike all the concerts in the Arts on the Hill series\, this event is free and open to the public\, but we will be inviting those in attendance to consider a donation for the Beech Hill Initiative on the night and/or in the days that follow it. We hope to reach our fundraising goal by the end of 2023. More than ever\, we are expecting a full house (hill) for Dave’s concert and ask that you please leave your dogs at home. \nThis season’s Arts on the Hill music series is brought to you by our lead sponsors Cold Mountain Builders and Emily & Jonathan McDevitt\, and our partner sponsors Bangor Savings Bank\, Camden Coast Real Estate\, and Maine Coast Orthodontics.

SUMMARY:Art Gone Wild: Peter Walls & Allegra Kuhn
DESCRIPTION:In collaboration with Waterfall Arts\, Art Gone Wild hosts artists at Stover and Head of Tide Preserves for installations of their work free to the community. Our last micro-residency for the year features artists Peter Walls & Allegra Kuhn\, who will festoon the trails of Stover Preserve! \nThe tree\, once aesthetically enhanced\, becomes something other than a“tree” and into something to reflect upon\, honor\, and revere.  \nThrough the act of seeing\, experiencing\, and searching out inspiration in the flora and fauna of Stover and Head of The Tide Preserves we will create 12 pendants to adorn some of the oldest trees\, the Hemlock and Cedars along the river’s edge of Stover Preserve that have watched over the property and the river itself the longest of any trees on this parcel\, for the past 80 to 100 years-  The Witness Trees as some would call them.  On this riverside “catwalk” \, donning their jewelry\, twelve 2.5’ x 4’ pendants inspired by the preserve itself\, we will create a living gallery for visitors to experience. \nPeter Walls and Allegra Kuhn are Artists living and working in MidCoast Maine. Peter is known for his shaped panel mural work throughout New England and Allegra for her colorful and joyous abstract paintings.  They both find inspiration in the Maine landscape\, the creatures which inhabit it\, and how humans interact with their surroundings here.
