SUMMARY:Open House: Art Gone Wild Stover Trail Adornments with Peter Walls & Allegra Kuhns (Time TBD)
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a reception with the artists during the re-ADORNING of Stover Preserve on Sunday July 7! \nPeter Walls and Allegra Kuhn generously offered to reinstall the “jewelry for the trees” from their 2023 installation as a fundraiser for future Art Gone Wild Residencies. “Our 2023 Art Gone Wild Residency gave us permission to PLAY and explore new ways of seeing\, making\, and reaching our audience through our exploration and discoveries on the Stover Preserve in Belfast\, Maine. We both come from a sculpture background and what we created last year brought us back to our roots\, taking our Art off the wall and into the trees! \nA portion of our forest play was to imagine rethinking how trails are presented to the public.  Taking cues from the jewelry industry our pendants are icons for the Stover Preserve itself. Having nature as inspiration is integral to art\, design\, and creativity and so we spent time on the preserve during our residency and let it speak to us. Creating this “jewelry” for the trees focuses public attention on how special these preserved lands\, flora\, and fauna are.  We hope that the pendents let you experience the forest differently\, see its magic\, and celebrate it for how special and beautiful it is—whether this is your first time seeing the pendants or you had a chance to see them last year!” \nThe pendants will be offered for sale and can be picked up after the 3-week adorning (weather dependent) is complete. The pendants have been created to withstand living outdoors permanently\, possibly mounted on a 4” x 4” post in one’s personal forest or yard.  They are also wonderful pieces to bring indoors and hang on the walls in your favorite sacred interior space. \nEach pendant will be offered at $650 each with 50% of the sale going to fund future “Art Gone Wild” residencies. For an additional fee the Artists will work with you to hang your work in your desired location (this does *not include any extra materials needed for installation). \nPeter Walls and Allegra Kuhn are Artists living and working in MidCoast Maine. Peter is known for his shaped-panel mural work throughout New England and Allegra for her colorful and joyous abstract paintings. They both find inspiration in the Maine landscape\, the creatures which inhabit it\, and how humans interact with their surroundings here. The artists are also installing pendants on the Pen Bay Community Wellness Trail on the campus of Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport on June 10. \nFor more information about Art Gone Wild and our partnership with Coastal Mountains Land Trust\, go here.

SUMMARY:Arts on the Hill: Burnurwurbskek Singers
DESCRIPTION:Coastal Mountains Land Trust’s Arts on the Hill program brings the Burnurwurbskek Singers to Beech Hill Preserve on Sunday\, July 28 at 1:00 p.m. as part of this popular and free summer concert series. \nComprised of men representing many of Maine’s Wabanaki people (including the Penobscot\, Passamaquoddy\, Maliseet and Mic Mac tribes)\, the members of the Burnurwurbskek Singers have been singing and drumming together for almost 25 years. They perform traditional northeast Native American woodland songs that date back to time immemorial\, as well as more contemporary\, intertribal songs. These songs have been passed down in their rich oral tradition from generation to generation – from fathers\, grandfathers and uncles to brothers\, cousins and sons. \nCore members of the group are Ron Bear\, his two sons Nick Bear and Cree Neptune Bear\, and Nyle Sockbeson. The group is also often accompanied by traditional Native American dances\, performed by Ron’s daughter Selena Neptune Bear and others. The Burnurwurbskek Singers are honored to continue to share their Native American drumming\, singing and dances with Indian Country and others. \nWe are honored to welcome the Singers to Beech Hill. Please join us for this very special event. \nWe’d like to thank the sponsors of this concert: \nBangor Savings Bank – Camden Coast Real Estate – Cold Mountain Builders – First National Bank \nAll performances are free and open to all ages\, but please leave your dogs at home.
