SUMMARY:Happy Wanderers: Little River Trail
DESCRIPTION:The little river trail is 7+ miles\, so we will do an out-and-back section\, totaling approx. 2 – 4+  miles. We will have 2 hiking groups\, so you can choose your challenge! \nThe trail is beautiful\, ambling along the river with some ups and downs. DESCRIPTION:Maine is a summer home and major migration hub for so many amazing species of birds! May marks the return of several different songbirds\, seabirds\, and shorebirds to our coast and forests.  \nCitizen scientists and birders have reported 134 species of birds at Beech Hill Preserve. Join Beech Hill birding authority and photographer Brian Willson for a guided walk as he identifies our avian visitors and year-round residents. \nWe will meet at the trailhead at 316 Beech Hill Rd. at 7:30AM. This walk will last approximately an hour and a half\, covering about 1.5 miles of trail including a steady but gentle incline up Beech Hill.  \nContact maevec@coastalmountains.org to register!

DESCRIPTION:Protecting the Place We Love: Two Years of Waldo County Conservation Initiative Projects – What\, Where and Why?  \n \nCoinciding with the celebration of Earth Day\, Coastal Mountains Land Trust proudly announced the year two successes of the Waldo County Conservation Initiative – an effort that launched in November 2022 with the goal of conserving open space in the 12 Waldo County towns served by the Land Trust.  \n \nIan Stewart\, Executive Director of Coastal Mountains Land Trust\, and members of the Waldo County Conservation Initiative will visit Penobscot Shores to share stories relating to the first 15 projects completed over the last two years in support of wildlife conservation\, recreation\, outdoor learning\, and climate mitigation. There will ample time for questions\, information for how to get involved in this work\, and discussion about the future projects for the coming year.   \n \nLet us know you’re coming!  \n \nThis presentation is open to the community and people are encouraged to register by calling Penobscot Shores at: 207-338-2332.

SUMMARY:Migration Madness: Youth Birding Hike
DESCRIPTION:May is the time when many birds return to Maine for the summer or migrate through on their way further north. Birding is an amazing way for youth to build appreciation for nature\, explore their connection to place\, and most of all\, have fun! \nJoin Coastal Mountains Land Trust and youth birder and climate activist Laura Hepner at Head of Tide Preserve on Saturday\, May 18 for a morning of birdwatching and discussion. We will walk the 1.5 mile trail to explore the songbirds\, warblers\, raptors\, and wetland species\, then engage in conversation about the changes these birds are experiencing during migration.  \nThis program is intended for anyone interested in birds ages 10-14. \nDirections: From downtown Belfast\, take Main Street west and immediately turn right onto Waldo Avenue. In 1.5 miles\, turn right onto Doak Road. Parking area is on the right immediately after Doak’s Machine Shop. \nContact maevec@coastalmountains.org to register or learn more.
