SUMMARY:Happy Wanderers Hike: Clark Island
DESCRIPTION:This month our monthly Happy Wanderers hike will be at Maine Coast Heritage Trust’s (MCHT) Clark Island Preserve in St. George. \nWe will meet at 10 a.m. on Thursday\, October 2nd for a walk with MCHT’s exceptional Regional Stewardship Manager\, Kirk Gentalen\, who will share the island’s ecological insights.  FYI\, this month we will be focused on observing fascinating nature sightings and less on accomplishing mileage.  We may end up wandering a mile or less\, depending on how many amazing birds\, plants\, and mammal signs we stop to admire. \nParking is limited\, so we will be meet at the overflow parking area .75 miles before the island.  We will be providing rides to the trailhead in our Land Trust truck.   \nLearn more about the island and parking: Clark Island \nHappy Wanderers hikes are led by Coastal Mountains Land Trust and Maine Health’s Community Health Program staff. \nGo to penbaywaldo.coursestorm.com to register and receive updates regarding this hike. \nIn accordance with all of Coastal Mountains Land Trust’s community engagement offerings\, this event is free and open to the public!

SUMMARY:Wednesday Waldo Walk: Hatchet Mountain Preserve
DESCRIPTION:RESCHEDULED FROM WEDNESDAY 10/8 TO THURSDAY 10/9 DUE TO RAIN! Join Coastal Mountains volunteer\, Bindy Pendleton\, as she guides hikers up Hatchet Mountain in Hope.  Total milage up and down is 1.2m. This hike is very difficult (by Midcoast Maine standards) over an old road that zig-zags interspersing steep with flat. From parking lot elevation gain is roughly 540ft. Average time 1.5 hr. with several stops along the way to absorb Fall views of Camden Hills and nearby Hobbs Pond. \nPlease register with CMLT /leaht@coastalmountains.org \nThose interested in carpooling from Belfast\, meet Bindy in the Reny’s parking lot by 9:30AM & contacting her ahead of time @207-323-0817. \nDirections: From Camden\, take Route 105 out of Camden to Hope Center. At Hope Center\, take a left onto Hatchet Mountain Road\, Route 235\, and drive just over 0.5 miles to parking area on the right.
