First phase of trail starts coming round the mountain

Rockport — Trail building has begun on the Round the Mountain Trail, which will eventually encircle Ragged Mountain.

On June 1, OBP Trailworks LLC, based in Turner, began construction of the 5.5-mile stretch of trail between the Camden Snow Bowl and a new 18-car parking lot off Hope Street in Hope with the goal of having that section of trail completed by winter.

The multi-use trail will be between 6 and 8 feet wide, and is intended to be open to the public next spring. The width and minimal incline are intended to provide opportunities for hiking, mountain biking and cross-country skiing throughout the year.
