Accreditation

Coastal Mountains Land Trust is accredited by an independent program of the Land Trust Alliance.

Accreditation demonstrates that a land trust has successfully implemented Land Trust Standards and Practices. Accredited land trusts range from all-volunteer organizations to national groups and protect more than 79% of all land and easements held by land trusts in America. Accreditation is a voluntary program administered by the Land Trust Accreditation Commission, an independent program established by the Land Trust Alliance to ensure the accountability and quality of work of land conservation organizations, and is a mark of distinction, showing that a land trust meets high standards for land conservation. It sends a message to landowners and supporters: “Invest in us. We are a strong, effective organization you can trust to conserve your land forever.”

The Land Trust was part of the first class of Land Trusts to be accredited in 2008 (and the first in Maine), was reaccredited in 2014, and again in 2020, as part of a network of over 400 accredited land trusts across the nation.

We are particularly proud of this letter of commendation from U.S. Representative Chellie Pingree recognizing the significance of receiving accreditation.
